After a short trip to Vegas on our drive from Texas to California, we stopped at Death Valley National Park. This was in December 2021.
Death Valley is famous for having the coolest name out of any national park. Just kidding, it is famous for having the lowest point of elevation in the U.S.
Badwater Basin is 282 ft below sea level and is a salt flat*. Death Valley is famous for being dry and hot, 120 degrees in the summer, and technically yes, Badwater basin does have water.
It's called Badwater for a reason though - the water is very salty.
The ground is covered in salt.
This is the most popular area of Death Valley NP, so there were lots of people in my pictures! But, my favorite area was the sand dunes.
We met a very cool California surfer dude who said when it's too cold to surf, he come to the sand dunes and sand surfs! He let us try it out.
Chilly in the morning at Death Valley at this volcanic crater!*
Artist's Pallet unique geographic feature.
Death Valley is a great park to see at night because there is an insane amount visibility of stars. We parked by this rock formation and waited for the sun to go down. It did not disappoint.
